School Ground and Facilities Maintenance

Bernards Township, New Jersey — Yijia Liu, candidate for the Bernards Twp Board of Education, calls for a maintenance plan of attack for our schools.

In a statement released to the news media, BOE candidate Yijia Liu expressed the need for a coordinated and systemic approach regarding how school grounds and facilities are maintained, repaired, and replaced. Liu stated: “I would like to see 5-year and 10-year plans for facilities and equipment maintenance, repair, and replacement”. Candidate Liu stressed the need for long term planning when it comes to equipment and facilities maintenance, repair, and eventual replacement as needed.

Liu noted: “Given my extensive experience in maintenance operations I understand, perhaps more than most, the need for long-term planning when it comes to equipment and facilities repair or replacement.” It is generally accepted that long delayed maintenance and the failure to spend available funds in a timely manner ends up being more expensive.

BOE Candidate Liu also explained that: “Good maintenance practices start with knowing the age and lifespan of the equipment. Repairs or replacements can then be prioritized with the most urgent repairs or replacements done first. Good maintenance requires a systemic approach with the necessary record keeping and software tools. This has been my experience both in my business and military careers.”

Candidate Liu’s outlook is grounded in practical experience gained thru his military and business experience. Both his naval and professional training has provided him with knowledge and expertise in maintenance operations.

He plans to bring that knowledge & expertise to the district and help our schools maintain first class facilities while controlling costs.

“We must spend wisely to achieve excellence for all,” candidate Liu said.
